The Milan Kitchen Show in 2016 displayed new directions in Kitchen Design…of course they featured the romance with SMART technology that the industry has for appliances, exhaust fans and room controls …along with built in sensors for lighting, taps and even a hydraulic bottom in a sink to adjust depth.
The Directions I found most interesting were:
Two ideas that deal with the Tactile & Visual Quality Of The Counter Surfaces.
1. Multi-Level Surfaces to Work & Eat On.
2. Mixed Textures on Work/ Eating Surfaces.
In this country kitchen pictured here the butcher block island top is maple while the counter tops are limestone. We used three different heights for work surfaces and a forth for an eating bar at the end of the kitchen.
Two approaches also featured in Milan were ones that I believe Personalize a Kitchen and Uplift the Energy in the Kitchen Space:
1. Artisanal Kitchens (Artwork /Handmade Crafts Displayed & in Kitchen Finishes)
2. Greenery Built In To The Kitchen Design.( Plants & Herbs) Designs focused on spaces allocated for plants in beside windows in green walls, above islands etc.
These concepts are so worth exploring further….stay tuned.
